Like
most service-type industries, custom picture framing
is just one of those subjects that you either know
about or don't, where anything in between can be dangerous.
To the layman, picture-framing probably seems a no-brainer:
slap a frame on a picture, slap the picture on the
wall, done.
|
 |
| |
Sometimes, it actually can be that
easy.
Usually, however, the knowledge and experience
that a professional picture
framer can bring to the table is what
is really needed. Qualified framers,
such as those working at the House,
have a background in color theory,
design
and visual balance, and will
of course be familiar with all of the materials
and tools available to our industry.

The
full process of designing a custom framing scheme for your
artwork is an enjoyable experience that typically doesn't
take very long. When you visit the House,
one of our experienced designers will greet you and begin
working with you to find the perfect framing solutions to
fit your needs.
Design is an objective process, so there is really no one
right or wrong way to frame a piece. We believe there is only
one major rule to follow when selecting a scheme: "Design
to the artwork, and not the decor of the room it will be placed
in." Nicely framed artwork will look great wherever you
put it- don't compromise the design to match your furniture.

We
offer a full line of archival materials to properly frame
your most valuable pieces.

CONSERVATION
/ PRESERVATION FRAMING:
Conservation is an important issue with a lot of the artwork
we see. Most people are generally only concerned with the
visual presentation
of their art, and therefore fail to recognize what steps might
need to be taken to properly preserve the work. We are keen
to point out these considerations to our customers when the
need arises, and we offer a full array of archival (acid-free)
materials such as matting, mounting boards, adhesives and
UV-shielding glass to ensure that signed/numbered prints,
original artwork, antiquated pieces and other work of value
is preserved for years to come.

We
often use "The Wizard"- an automated mat-cutter
that allows us to create very complex matting solutions at
an affordable price!

|
|
MATTING:
One
of the greatest inventions to have revolutioned the framing
industry was introduced several years back- the "Wizard
Mat Cutting System". The "Wizard" is a mechanized
cutting unit run by a standard PC and Wizard-proprietary software.
It enables us to quickly and cleanly cut complex
matting arrangements that would otherwise take a great deal
of time to lay out and cut by hand. This translates to much
lower prices on complex jobs, increasing the range of affordable
design options available to our customers.

FINISHING
TOUCHES:
After
the piece is framed and checked again for flaws, we finish
it off by sealing the back of our wood-frames with kraft-paper
(metal-frames do not require this step), adding the proper
hanging-system (typically light-weight, yet very durable coated
wire), attaching "bump-ons" (tiny, friction-providing
tabs adhered to the lower corners of the frame that prevent
it from hanging crooked) and, when the piece has been checked
again for flaws one last time, we add our
House of Frames sticker as our seal of approval on
a job well done.

Our
attention to detail extends to all aspects of custom picture
framing. We carefully inspect each project as we work to ensure
that our customers receive only clean and beautiful pieces!
